Our Farm

At Illumination Education, our farm is a vibrant extension of our hands-on, nature-based learning philosophy. Here, students actively engage in the care and management of various farm animals, including chickens, ducks, goats, bees, and rabbits. This immersive experience not only teaches responsibility and community but also aligns with our vision of sustainability and eco-friendly practices.

Chickens and Ducks

Students are responsible for feeding and caring for our chickens and ducks. They collect eggs, learn about poultry health, and understand the role of these birds in our ecosystem. The fresh eggs contribute to our farm-to-table meals, providing a direct link between animal care and nutritious food production.

Goats

Our goats are a central part of the farm, offering students the opportunity to learn about larger livestock. Students take part in feeding, milking, and general care, gaining insights into dairy production and animal husbandry. The goat's milk can be used in various school workshops, such as making cheese and soap, integrating science and practical skills.

Bees

Our beehives teach students about the crucial role of pollinators in our environment. By managing the hives and harvesting honey, students learn about bee behavior, the importance of pollination, and the production of honey. This fosters a deeper understanding of ecology and the interdependence of species.

Rabbits

Caring for rabbits helps students develop gentle handling skills and understand small animal care. These activities teach patience and empathy, as students feed, clean, and observe the rabbits. The manure from rabbits also serves as a valuable addition to our composting efforts, enriching soil health.

Hands-On Learning and Responsibility

Every aspect of our farm is designed to be a hands-on learning experience. Students are involved in daily feeding, cleaning, and general care of the animals, learning essential skills and the importance of consistency and responsibility. These tasks help build a strong sense of community as students work together to ensure the well-being of the animals.

Sustainability and Eco-Friendly Practices

Our farm is a model of sustainable and eco-friendly practices. We use animal waste to enrich our compost, which in turn nourishes our gardens. This closed-loop system teaches students about recycling nutrients and the importance of sustainable agriculture. Our beekeeping practices support local biodiversity and pollination, while our use of goat milk reduces reliance on external dairy sources.

Farm-to-Table Integration

The farm is an integral part of our farm-to-table program. Students learn how to incorporate fresh eggs, milk, and honey into our school meals, understanding the full cycle of food production. This hands-on approach reinforces lessons about nutrition, sustainable living, and the environmental impact of our food choices.

At Illumination Education, our farm is more than just a place for animals; it is a living classroom that nurtures responsibility, community, and a deep connection to nature. Through caring for the animals, students gain invaluable life skills and an appreciation for sustainable practices that they will carry with them throughout their lives.
